(Minghui.org) A 77-year-old incapacitated woman in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province was admitted to prison in a wheelchair in December 2025 to serve a three-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, Minghui.org learned recently.
Ms. Hao Sanbao was sentenced to three years in 2022. Due to her poor health, she was put under residential surveillance. Despite her incapacitation, dozens of officers broke into her home on December 23, 2025, and took her away in a wheelchair. She was admitted to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison on December 30.
Ms. Hao’s husband passed away 15 years ago, and her only daughter lives outside of China. She is in a dire situation with no one available to visit her in prison.
Past Persecution
Ms. Hao took up Falun Gong in 1995. In just two weeks, many of her chronic ailments, including severe heart condition, high blood pressure, and rheumatic periarthritis of the shoulder, all disappeared. After the Chinese Communist Party ordered the persecution in 1999, she remained firm in her faith and was repeatedly targeted.
Ms. Hao was arrested at home one morning in January 2002 by officers from the Harbin City Police Department and the Wenzheng Police Station. They raided her home and took her to the police station for interrogation. Due to her high blood pressure, she was denied admission by the local detention center. The police confiscated her passport and ID, and forced her to pay 5,000-yuan bail bond. She was then released.
The police refused to return the 5,000-yuan bond when her bail period ended. Her husband filed complaints with the provincial level agencies, and the police finally returned the money in 2007.
The mental distress from Ms. Hao’s repeated arrests took a toll on her husband’s health. He suffered a heart attack in 2011 and died.
Ms. Hao was arrested again on October 10, 2014, after being reported for raising awareness about the persecution. She refused to report her name when being interrogated at the Tongda Police Station, but they identified her through their internal database. The police raided her home and confiscated her many personal items and 16,000 yuan paper currency printed with information about Falun Gong.
Due to her high blood pressure, she was denied admission by the detention center. Before releasing her the following evening, officer Gao Ming attempted to extort 10,000 yuan from her. She refused to comply.
Ms. Hao returned to the Tongda Police Station in early June 2015, seeking the return of her ID. Officer Gao refused, saying her case wasn’t closed yet.
A group of officers broke into Ms. Hao’s home on the morning of April 19, 2021. They handcuffed her and confiscated her Falun Gong books, informational materials, portrait of the founder of Falun Gong, several cell phones, and some cash.
Ms. Hao was taken to the Harbin City Railroad Police Station for interrogation. The police said that they had been monitoring her daily activities for months. During the physical exam required for detention, she was again found to have dangerously high blood pressure and released on bail the next day.
Officers from the Harbin City Railroad Police Station broke into Ms. Hao’s home again in 2022, with the excuse that she had paper currency bearing information about Falun Gong. She was secretly sentenced to three years in prison. Although the authorities placed her under residential surveillance due to her poor health, they took her into custody years later to serve time, even though she had become completely incapacitated.
