(Minghui.org) I’d like to tell you about my experiences while I strove to elevate my xinxing and help Master save sentient beings and clarify the truth about the persecution in today’s chaotic world.
Before I was born, Falun Dafa practitioners had already been validating the Fa and exposing the persecution for five years. I practiced alongside my family since I was very little. Cultivating was part of my routine and not an active, conscious act.
However, as I grew older and faced the stark contrast between myself and everyday people in society, I wondered: Who am I? Why am I here? What do I believe in? Life required me to make a decision—to take a leap of faith.
We know that to save more lives, Master has repeatedly and compassionately extended the date when Fa-rectification would end. Within this limited time granted by Master’s benevolence, we must rapidly elevate ourselves and seek out those who can be saved.
However, the reality we face is a world where social morals are declining daily, morality is deteriorating, and atheism is widespread. The specter of communism has disguised itself as the savior of mankind and deceived many kind-hearted individuals. Technology has amplified convenience and, in turn, real-world temptations, making it even harder for people to discern the truth.
In a lecture given 15 years ago, Master taught us,
“Dafa disciples came about precisely at the last stage of the cosmos’s cycle of formation, stasis, degeneration, and destruction. Which is to say, whether it be living beings or material things, this is when everything has arrived at the last and worst point, with the manifestations of things being the most complicated and with differentiating good from bad or righteous from evil being the hardest.” (“What a Dafa Disciple Is,” Collected Teachings Given Around the World Volume XI)
Fifteen years later today, the world has become even more chaotic. This generation of young people lives in the absolute end of the end-times of Fa-rectification, where very few people truly have faith. Many have been brainwashed by atheism, and society barely functions based on the remnants of an ancient morality. Social lives are digital, riots are frequent, and minds are corrupted.
Extreme ideologies package their theories as “great” and “noble,” occupying the moral high ground. Conversely, those who uphold traditional values and believe in God are silenced by fear, terrified of becoming the odd one out.
Master said,
“In fact, today’s human race would have been destroyed a long time ago if it weren’t for the Fa-rectification. The standard of the human race’s thinking is already at a level lower than hell.” (Teachings Given on Lantern Festival Day, 2003)
As a practitioner, how can one save people amidst this social malaise? When interacting with young people, I found that if I started talking about “God” or “the supernatural” right from the beginning, many instantly close the door to communication, or even silently ridicule what I say.
Master said,
“Even if you didn’t clarify the facts about the evil CCP, people would gradually come to see it for the evil thing it is. But as for atheism, those who grow up in that culture cannot see it for what it is. It’s really hard for them to do that.” (“Fa Teaching at the 2015 West Coast Fa Conference,” Collected Fa Teachings, Vol. XIII)
So, can practitioners express their thoughts convincingly in secular society? How can we conform to ordinary people’s attachments to clarify the truth?
As a frequent consumer of the news and political commentary, I once attempted to separate “divinity” from “rationality” during conversations, using secular language that ordinary people could understand to express myself. In this process, I was also trying to convince myself that faith is incremental.
What I didn’t realize at the time was that by doing this, I was unconsciously influenced by those commentators, and my viewpoints were subtly shaped and overridden. I substituted faith for a moral framework or ideology that could explain everything while dissecting the evil communist theories.
Even worse, I began to develop an attachment to proving myself “right” and trying to prove others “wrong.” Whether it was a trending topic or daily news, I took pleasure in standing on the opposing side to criticize. Every logical loophole of my opponent became an opportunity for me to score points in a debate and boost my self-esteem. I gradually became immersed in seeking a sense of worth within political viewpoints, using it to validate myself.
However, I eventually realized: only faith in Dafa can truly explain everything in the world. Divorced from faith, any theory among ordinary people lies on a set of different assumptions. Once I understood this, my mindset became much lighter and purer when I clarified the truth to ordinary people.
In June of this year, I was responsible for The Epoch Times booth at a conference. I encountered many different types of people who had various motivations and values, all of whom showed a strong interest in the newspaper.
A German gentleman walked up enthusiastically. He had been looking for people to debate with all over the venue, trying to persuade others with his own philosophical thoughts. After successfully “defeating” a Swiss person, he came to our booth.
After listening to my brief introduction of the newspaper, he politely asked a few questions, and then spoke at great length about his own philosophy: the nature of existence, completeness and emptiness, the meaning of life, and everything in between. I stood there smiling, listening half-heartedly, thinking to myself that this person clearly didn’t care much for others. He was too focused on himself and didn’t consider whether the listener was interested.
At that exact moment, I was suddenly startled: Isn’t this exactly how I look in the eyes of others? The gentleman in front of me was like a mirror reflecting my own competitive flaws and attachment to showing off.
As his long speech ended, he asked me a question: “Do you believe in objective reality?” Knowing well that he expected a complex philosophical answer, I thought of Master’s teachings.
Master said,
“A cultivator whose cultivation has reached a particular level can only see manifestations at that level. He is unable to see the truth beyond that level, and neither will he believe it. Therefore, he only regards what he sees at his level as correct. Before his cultivation reaches a higher level, he thinks that those things do not exist and are not believable; this is determined by his level, and his mind is unable to elevate.” (Lecture Two, Zhuan Falun)
Therefore, I used my own understanding cultivated from the Fa to tell him: “Yes, objective reality exists, but it is limited by our cognitive level and the scope of what we know. When you sit across from me, I can see that you and the sofa are two independent entities—one is moving, and one is stationary. But if I could see the more microscopic molecular structure, perhaps the sofa would be moving while you are stationary. Perhaps both of these perceptions exist simultaneously.”
He was incredibly surprised and pleased with my answer. Next, he mentioned that many Germans philosophers were deeply influenced by Eastern philosophies like Buddhism.
I realized that many insightful people are actually waiting and yearning for Dafa. After listening to my explanation, this gentleman showed an immense interest in Dafa. He pulled a business card out from his jacket and held it high like a trophy—as if presenting a precious reward to me after a long spiritual quest.
This chance encounter made me reflect on my desire to win verbally. It showed me how to connect with people with a modern worldview and utilize the wisdom of Dafa to clarify the truth.
At this same conference, two young Christian apologists also came to speak with me. They advocated that the UK should restore its Christian culture.
To add some background here: “Cultural Christians” refers to people who reside in a Christian society and observe holiday traditions, such as Christmas and Easter, but do not truly believe in Christ or practice the faith.
I asked them: “If people do not fundamentally believe in Christ, is it really enough for British society to maintain Christian culture solely on a cultural level? Won’t the tree of life slowly wither away because its divine roots are severed?”
One of the young men pondered for a moment and replied, “That depends on what enough means. If it’s for receiving salvation, it’s definitely not enough. But if it’s just to maintain the moral order of a healthy society, perhaps it is.”
I said, “If humanity fundamentally disbelieves in God, then the culture associated with it will eventually become a mere formality, and the moral system will inevitably collapse. If people live only for themselves and their private desires, humanity will ultimately head toward extinction.” I could see that these words made him consider the importance of the divine from a new perspective.
This year, I also had the honor of participating in interviewing audience members after Shen Yun performances. Shen Yun displays pure traditional culture, and the lyrics directly expose the harms of atheism and evolution. These soul-stirring inner meanings directly cleanse the souls of the audience.
Many of the Shen Yun performers are young people my age. Their courage and dedication move and inspire me deeply. Although my job was to interview the audience, within this pure energy field, I felt that I too was being purified.
During the interviews I gained a deeper appreciation for the importance of “letting go of oneself.” If you take yourself too seriously, it is impossible to have a touching interview. Only by truly letting go of oneself, completely standing in the other person’s shoes, and listening with compassion, can one truly open people’s hearts, allowing them to speak from the heart and express their gratitude toward Dafa.
On my future path of cultivation, I will seize the time to study the Fa more diligently, eliminate my competitive desires and self-centeredness, and use the wisdom cultivated from Dafa to save more sentient beings.
