(Clearwisdom.net) The court hearing on the case of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Xiaohua began around 9 a.m. on August 30, 2011, in Tumen City, Jilin Province. By then, Ms. Liu had been detained at the Tumen Municipal Detention Center for more than six months. During this period, police denied her family visitation. When her family members saw her in court, they could hardly recognize her because she was so emaciated. At 5 feet 6 inches, she weighed less than 110 pounds, which was about 45 pounds less than she weighed before.
Ms. Liu said that since her arrest on March 4 by the Domestic Security Division, she was severely tortured. The police took turns interrogating her, not allowing her to sleep for four days and four nights. The police poked at her eyes, used mineral water bottles to hit her head, and used a lighter and cigarettes to burn her hands. She still has scars from the torture. However, the judge ignored her testimony with the excuse that there were no eyewitnesses.
Ms. Liu was arrested along with two Falun Gong practitioners from other cities, Zheng Lijun and Zhou Jujing.
During her detention, a policeman with the surname Zhou from Shixian Township police station hit Ms. Liu's back with his fists, slapped her on the face, and used cigarettes to burn her fingers. Zhou is a new police officer in his 20's. Quan Yongzhe of the Domestic Security Division hit her genital area with a baton. Quan has been known to abuse female Falun Gong practitioners this way. He also stepped on Ms. Liu's fingers, slapped her in the face, and poked her eyes with his fingers. Zheng Wenyong used a lighter to burn her hands until they developed blisters. Wu Jilong (chief of the Domestic Security Division) poured water down her neck. Another policeman (name unknown) used a makeshift rope made of plastic to tie her hair to the back of the metal chair, and kept her from sleeping for four days. She fainted twice. Each time, she was awakened by cold water poured on her face. She was later sent to the detention center. When she had her pre-detention physical exam in the hospital, she had bruises on her lower body, and suffered from hypertension and palpitations.
In August, the trial against Ms. Liu began in Tumen Municipal Court. The detention center provided false testimony that all of her health indicators were normal, and that she suffered from no injuries or diseases. During the trial, Ms. Liu's prepared remarks were taken away when it was her turn to speak. She asked them how they could deprive a citizen of the right to speak on her own behalf. They said, “These were all things that happened in the past. It's useless to talk about them.” Ms. Liu asked the judge what crime she committed by practicing Falun Gong. The judge said, “The Communist Party is your parents. You are the Party's child. It's OK for parents to beat a child.”
The trial did not follow any legal proceedings and ended without any official decision. On October 19, Ms. Liu was transferred to Changchun. It is said that she was sentenced to four years in prison.
