Torture Re-enactment: Iron Chair
Mr. Wang Huanxia is a taxi driver. He lives according to the principles of Falun Gong and strives to be a good person at work, providing clear records and keeping his expenses low. His supervisor once claimed that there was no better driver in Mengyin County than Wang Huanxia.
The police arrested Wang Huanxia and his daughter Wang Wenwen on the night of June 13, 2014, when they were distributing information about Falun Gong in the community. During the arrest, the police cut Wenwen's leg, leaving a wound almost an inch deep.
At the station, the police placed Wang Huanxia in an iron chair. They hit the back of his head as they interrogated him. The next afternoon, a police officer injured Wang Huanxia's thumbs when he refused to be fingerprinted, all the while yelling, “I'm going to break these thumbs for you!” The police ransacked the family home that day and also arrested Mr. Wang's wife. They interrogated and tortured her deep into the night.
Wang Huanxia was released after he was detained for one month at the Mengyin County Detention Center. His wife was detained for four days, and his daughter for seven.
After the family returned home, a cousin who works for the Mengyin County 610 Office told them that the authorities plan to send all three of them to a brainwashing center.
