(Minghui.org) Several Falun Gong practitioners in Changchun were recently arrested. Four were followed when picking up calendars containing information about Falun Gong, and five were arrested for giving out the same calendars.
Some practitioners in China produce and distribute these desk calendars as a means of circumventing censorship and telling the public about the Chinese Communist regime's violent persecution of Falun Gong.
Police Surveillance
Zhang Hong and her brother, Zhang Guojun, drove their family van to pick up materials used to produce the calendars on October 14. They were monitored and videotaped. The next day, officers from Erdao Police arrested them as they left their home.
When Zhang Hong resisted, officers punched and kicked her. At present, both practitioners are detained at Weizigou Detention Center in Changchun. Police searched their home and seized Falun Gong books, brochures, and three boxes of boards used to make the calendars. During the search, officers smashed a glass frame containing a portrait of the founder of Falun Gong.
Erdao police even contacted Zhang Hong's landlord and forbade him to rent the home to her. The arrest left two children at home, facing eviction.
Practitioners Shi Bin and Wang Haifeng were also arrested on the same day and detained at the same location as the Zhangs. Shi Bin was arrested by officers from Xinglongshan Police Station, who had long monitored him. They arrested him while he delivered the calendars. He has been on a hunger strike for two days so far to protest the persecution.
Wang Haifeng was arrested at his home by Kuancheng District Police. Like the other three practitioners, he had been followed while picking up the calendars.
Other Changchun Arrests
Falun Gong practitioners Xiao Kuikui, Niu Yafen, Jin Meizi, Zhao Pengyan, and Zhao Shuyu were arrested on October 15 while handing out similar calendars.
Ms. Liu Xiangge was arrested by more than ten officers from Kuancheng and Kaixuan Police Stations on October 15. Her home was ransacked, and she is currently detained at No. 3 Detention Center in Changchun.
Mr. Xie Shichang, 72, was arrested on the same day by officers who broke into his home in the Changchun High Tech Development Zone.
Ms. Wang Shuyan was arrested by officers from Liuying Street Police Station in Kuancheng District, Changchun on October 16. Police ransacked her home that night and seized personal belongings including cash, a printer, and a computer. She is also being held at the No. 3 Detention Center.
Ms. Wang's family suspects that her residential committee reported her to the local police, who then followed and arrested her.
