Mr. Han Yongqiang (韩永强), a lecturer at Beihua University, and his wife Ms. Wei Xiujuan (魏修娟) were arrested and taken to the Shahezi Brainwashing Center on August 1, 2014. They were transferred to the Jilin Detention Center on August 6.
Mr. Han has been held for over three months and has been suffering from kidney stones.
Wife Humiliated
Officers from the Changjianglu Police Station arrested Mr. Han outside his home. They snatched his house keys and broke in. Mr. Han's wife had just finished her shower and was in her night clothes.
Seven or eight police officers pushed her onto the bed and tied her hands together with duct tape. Ms. Wei struggled to get free and demanded that she be allowed to put on her underwear. A female officer helped her to put on some clothes. When Ms. Wei asked who they were, officer Li, claiming to be from the criminal investigation team, slapped her face, lifted up her chin, and said: “Believe it or not I can break your bones. I will show you Communist tyranny.”
Ms. Wei fainted, but she and her husband were still taken to the Shahezi Brainwashing Center.
Husband and Wife Detained
The couple spent six days in the brainwashing center, where Ms. Wei's blood pressure shot up. She fainted and was hospitalized while being transferred to Jilin Detention Center. She was later released on bail due to her poor health.
Mr. Han has been held in the Jilin Detention Center for over three months. His case was submitted to the Procuratorate and his family has hired a lawyer to represent him in court.
The lawyer met Mr. Han in mid-October and found out that he has been in severe pain from kidney stones since on October 10.
