(Minghui.org) Mr. Qi Xiangyang was among the practitioners who were {{illegally} arrested on April 24, 2014 in Shenyang City. He suffered a perforated eardrum due to vicious beatings during his arrest and in detention.
Mr. Qi is a resident of Liaodafang County, Liaozhong County. He and his wife own a fast food restaurant in Shenyang. When he was cooking around 10:00 a.m. on April 24, 2014, several plainclothes officers came to his restaurant claiming to be fire control inspectors. They demanded that he call his wife, the legal owner of the restaurant and tell her to stop by the Yingbin Road Police Station. On arriving at the police station his wife was arrested.
Home Ransacked and Belongings Confiscated
The police then broke into Mr. Qi's home while nobody was there and ransacked it. They confiscated a computer, an MP3 player, a speaker, Falun Gong books, and other personal belongings.
Later, seven officers, including Han Wentao, the director of the Yingbin Road Police Station, tried to arrest Mr. Qi at the restaurant. He refused to go with them and resisted for 20 minutes. They pushed him to the ground and beat him.
He was taken to the Yingbin Road Police Station and was held in a solitary cell with his hands cuffed behind his back. He was not allowed to go to the restroom for two and a half hours. He was interrogated for half an hour at night. He was then transferred to the Shenyang City Detention Center.
The worker at his restaurant was also detained and interrogated.
Injured by Police
A physical examination in the detention center showed that Mr. Qi had bruises and cuts in several places. His shoulders and left arm were swollen and bruised. The handcuffs had cut into the flesh on the right wrist and caused nerve damage to his right thumb.
Mr. Qi requested twice to be given a thorough physical examination at the detention center. He was eventually taken to a hospital. The examination showed that his right eardrum was perforated. Mr. Qi informed the police officers that beat him that he would sue them and charge them with assault and battery.
After 15 days of detention, Mr. Qi was released. When his family came to the detention center to take him home, the officers from the police station tried to extort 10,000 yuan but his family refused to pay.
Two weeks after his release, the local police officers came to check on him.
