(Minghui.org) For simply upholding his belief in Falun Gong, Mr. Zhang Puhe spent a decade in prison, where repeated torture turned him from a healthy man into an invalid. When he was released on December 24, 2012, he was diagnosed with second-degree disability, the second most severe disability type recognized by China's doctors.
Although eligible, the government denied his request for state compensation, totally ignoring his torture-induced health problems, which included cerebellar atrophy, secondary lung tuberculosis, gallstones, cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder), and arteriosclerosis obliterans (hardening and loss of elasticity of arteries) in the lower limbs.
During Mr. Zhang's ten-year wrongful imprisonment, his parents passed away, and his wife was forced to divorce him. He had no family to come home to after his release, and must now rely on other practitioners to help him with daily activities.
The local police will not leave him in peace. They have continued to harass him and his caregivers since August 2014.
Recent Harassment
A local police officer came to Mr. Zhang's rental residence on the afternoon of August 18, when Mr. Zhang was chatting with two practitioners. He left and returned shortly, accompanied by three more officers. They demanded that the two practitioners provide their cell phone numbers. Members of the local political and legal affairs committee and police department staff later videotaped his residence and asked for more information. Mr. Zhang refused to answer their questions.
Two days later, several police officers went to the home of Ms. Sun, who had helped to look after Mr. Zhang. They took her to the district police department and attempted to find out more about Mr. Zhang. The officers didn't get what they wanted, but didn't release her until late in the morning.
The police continue to monitor Mr. Zhang and track where he goes.

Mr. Zhang, 50, was employed by the Qindeli Farm in Jiansanjiang Reclamation General Administration. He has been arrested and detained many times, and was twice placed in a forced labor camp. He was tortured repeatedly during the past years for upholding his faith in Falun Gong. He became critically ill and handicapped in the prison. The authorities have refused his family's complaint against Jiamusi Court, and the government denied his request for state compensation.
