(Minghui.org) Once a victim of domestic violence, Ms. Hu Hong was traumatized and suffered from poor health for years. After divorcing her husband, she moved more than 600 miles from Ningxia Autonomous Region to Qinghai Province, where she did odd jobs to support herself and her children. Life wasn't easy, and her chronic illnesses only made it harder.
Things changed in 2011, however, after she began to practice Falun Gong. Not only did Ms. Hu regain her health, but she also had a much more positive outlook on life. She was so amazed that she grabbed every opportunity to tell people about how Falun Gong changed her life.
Such a simple act landed her in detention, however. She was arrested on June 24 this year while distributing literature exposing the Chinese Communist Party's persecution of Falun Gong.
Shortly afterwards, she sustained a severe head injury at Delingha City Detention Center in Qinghai. The detention center and the police deliberately kept her family in the dark regarding her condition. Her loved ones only learned of her injury from someone in the center a month after it happened.
When the family pressed the police about how it happened, they were met with threats. The police not only refused to disclose what happened to Ms. Hu, but also rejected their request to see her.
Ms. Hu remains in detention. She is forced to take a great deal of medication and is reported to be very depressed because she is constantly pressured to give up her belief in Falun Gong.
Head Severely Injured
When the head injury occurred in early July, Ms. Hu was sent for emergency treatment. Her head and one of her eyes were wrapped in bandages. After a few days of treatment, she regained consciousness but could not talk.
The local police station notified one of Ms. Hu's coworkers to accompany her in the hospital. Police claimed to the coworker that Ms. Hu's injury occurred in a suicide attempt. They threatened the coworker not to reveal Ms. Hu's condition to anyone.
Police Search and Monitor Family Who Came to Learn What Happened
Ms. Hu's family heard about her injury a month later, but they did not know her condition or whereabouts. They called Zhao Lin, director of Delingha City Domestic Security Division, but Zhao refused to reveal any information about Ms. Hu's injury. He asked her family to come meet him in person to discuss Ms. Hu's parole.
Ms. Hu's family members traveled a long distance from Ningxia to Delingha in early August. Her daughter, Ms. Zhang Yan, met with the director. When Ms. Zhang asked about her mother's condition, Zhao made everyone else in the room leave. He confiscated Ms. Zhang's cell phone and checked the information on it.
Later, plainclothes police officers and police cars were dispatched around the hotel where Ms. Hu's family members stayed. They monitored and followed them. They broke into Ms. Zhang's room and searched it.
When Ms. Zhang met the director a second time, Zhao told her that the procuratorate approved Ms. Hu's arrest on July 22 and she would face trial. Since Ms. Hu's story was exposed on the Internet, the director issued an arrest warrant for Ms. Hu's brother, who was suspected of the Internet leak.
Ms. Zhang went to the detention center to see her mother, but was refused a meeting. A guard told Ms. Zhang that her mother had broken capillaries caused by high blood pressure, but recovered after the treatment. He refused to say more.
Illegal Arrest
Ms. Hu Hong, 45, originally from Zhongning County, Ningxia Autonomous Region, did odd jobs in Huaitoutala Town, Delingha, Qinghai Province before her detention. While she was distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in Huaitoutala Town on June 24, 2014, she was reported. Police officers Huo Wenlu and Liu Haining from Huaitoutala Town Police Station arrested her.
The police ransacked her home and confiscated Falun Gong books and materials, a cell phone and a bankcard. Ms. Hu was later taken to the Delingha City Detention Center. Police from the Delingha Domestic Security Division, including Zhao Lin, Ma Dejun and Zhou Cuoma, interrogated her.
