(Minghui.org) “It violates the law,” said attorney Liu Zhengqing. “How can a court obstruct an attorney from defending a client? I'll sue the judge and post it on the Internet.”
During the trial at which he was representing two Falun Gong practitioners in the Qujiang District Court on December 20, 2014, Liu had to be dragged out of the courtroom.
The two practitioners, both retired from the Shaoguan City Iron and Steel Group, were charged under Article 300 of China's Criminal Code with “using a cult organization to undermine law enforcement.” The communist regime uses this accusation to arbitrarily arrest and imprison practitioners nationwide.
The Court's Own Misconduct
Regulations by China’s Supreme Court exempt lawyers from security checks when they enter a courtroom. However, Liu was ordered to turn his bag over for a security check when he arrived at the Qujiang Court. He refused but was allowed to enter the courtroom after debating the matter.
However, the judge still forbade the attorney from defending his clients and did not allow Liu to submit a written defense statement. When he insisted on issuing a statement anyway, Liu was dragged out of the courtroom by four bailiffs.
The court only allowed three of Ms. Chen and Ms. Fu's family members to attend the hearing, while over 200 seats were filled with people brought in by the authorities.
Ms. Chen Xueqing and Ms. Fu Chiying were illegally arrested at their homes on August 29, 2014, by officers from the Qujiang 610 Office and Domestic Security Division. The police ransacked their homes and confiscated computers, cellphones, and other personal belongings.
