(Minghui.org) Ms. Liu Yawen was tried by the Tiexi District Court in Anshan City on November 26, 2015 after she was detained for 10 months for helping an illegally sentenced practitioner's family mail a letter of complaint against the judge, prosecutor, and police officers in charge of Ms. Liu's case.
The complaint was intercepted by police and used as “evidence” to prosecute Ms. Liu, who was charged as a messenger. It is believed that she was arrested because she is a Falun Gong practitioner, and someone reported her to the police who then confiscated the letter.
A lawyer pointed out that the judge and prosecutor should recuse themselves from the case due to a conflict of interest, but they refused and carried on with the hearing.
Ms. Liu testified about the benefits she received from practicing Falun Gong and argued that she did not commit a crime by helping others mail a legal complaint, as citizens have the right to report crimes.
The judge denied release on bail as requested by Ms. Liu's lawyers. She remains detained following her arrest 10 moths ago.
