(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zou Deyong, 46, works as a software engineer in Beijing. On April 12, 2015, he was arrested while distributing literature about the persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese communist regime. Police also ransacked his rental home in Huilongguan New Village, Beijing.
The Changping District Court began Mr. Zou's trial on November 9 and allowed only two family members to observe the proceedings. The family was told by the clerk that the other seats were reserved for police officers, but in fact there were six or seven empty seats.
The defense attorney argued that the prosecution's evidence, including printers, computers, and magazines containing Falun Gong content, only proves that Mr. Zou had Falun Gong content, but does not show that he had committed a crime.
Mr. Zou testified that his previous health problems were resolved after he began to practice Falun Gong, and that his distributing Falun Gong materials did not harm anyone.
The session lasted less than two hours. No verdict has been announced.
Mr. Zou was detained by the Changping District Branch of the Beijing Police Department on April 13. On May 20, the First Branch of the Beijing Municipal Procuratorate and Changping Branch of Beijing Police Department provided the arrest warrant. On June 3, the case was transferred to the Changping District Procuratorate, which formally filed charges against Mr. Zou at the end of September.
