(Minghui.org) Mr. Wu Zengjian from Mengyin County, Shandong Province was sentenced to 13 years on March 28, 2003 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual practice being persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party.
Because he refused to give up his belief in Falun Gong, Mr. Wu was brutally tortured at the Shandong Men's Prison. Starting two years ago, the guards put him in solitary confinement. As the cell is windowless, his neck and hands have developed large black blotches due to lack of sunlight.
Mr. Wu's 2003 sentencing followed his arrest in September 2002. Prior to that, both he and his wife Ms. Qi Chengrong had been arrested and detained repeatedly. Mr. Wu's nose and Ms. Qi's leg were broken by severe beatings by police.
Ms. Qi was arrested and given two years of forced labor in March 2001. Mr. Wu managed to escape arrest that time, but had to leave home to avoid further persecution.
The police went after the couple's son instead. The teenager was taking an exam in school when he was seized by police and taken to a brainwashing center. Officer Wang Wei grabbed the child's hair and pushed him against the wall, before using a belt to whip him. Wang also stomped on the boy's toes.
The boy wasn't released until about 20 days later.
