(Minghui.org) Police officers across Beijing arrested and harassed local Falun Gong practitioners during the National People's Congress in March, in keeping with the communist regime's tendency to ramp up the persecution during “politically sensitive” times.
Shortly after Ms. Zhou Jing returned home from work on March 8, 2015, six officers broke in, ransacked her home, and arrested her.
Ms. Zhou was later released on bail on March 10 after she failed a physical examination at the detention center.
Ms. Zhou has been repeatedly arrested in the past 15 years for practicing Falun Gong. She was arrested and dragged along the ground by the police while she was pregnant in 2000.
Ms. Zhou was sentenced to one and a half years in a forced labor camp in 2001. While she was detained at Tiantanghe Women's Forced Labor Camp, she was forced to stand all night and deprived of sleep. Her hair turned gray even though she was only in her twenties. After she was released, the police continued to monitor her.
Other Practitioners Harassed During Congressional Meetings
In addition to Ms. Zhou, Mr. Ding Xifeng reported that more than 10 police officers broke into his home and ransacked the place over the course of five hours. They seized his computer, printer, and Falun Gong-related materials, including other practitioners' contact information. Mr. Ding wasn't arrested.
Ms. Huang Ling disappeared on the evening of March 3. Her husband, Mr. Hu Chuanlin, a faculty member of Beijing Second Foreign Language Institute, also disappeared on March 6. Their family members suspect that both were arrested by police, who had been monitoring them before the conference started.
