(Minghui.org) Ms. Guan Shui'e suffered from several illnesses for years. The 61-year-old became healthy after she started practicing Falun Gong in 1997, and she also got rid of her addiction to mahjong (a form of gambling).
However, she was subjected to four years of forced labor and three years of imprisonment because she refused to give up her belief in Falun Gong.
Ms. Guan was at home taking care of her one-month-old grandson on the morning of April 26, 2011, when the Nancheng County police broke in and arrested her.
During the trial none of her family members or friends were allowed in the court room. Ms. Guan appealed her innocence and stated that the Constitution gives Chinese people freedom of belief, so they were not breaking the law by practicing Falun Gong. In January 2012, Ms. Guan was sentenced to three years in prison and taken to the Jiangxi Women's Prison.
Ms. Guan was abused in prison. She was also forced to watch videos that slander Falun Gong. She was made to stand for long hours and deprived of sleep. She was forced to stand until 2 a.m. and had to get up at 5 a.m. to do forced labor. While working 12 hours every day, packing clothes, umbrellas, making umbrella stands, among other things, her health declined. She soon became dizzy and developed high blood pressure.
Four Years of Forced Labor
Ms. Guan was arrested on July 21, 1999, when she was visiting another practitioner. Several plainclothes officers from the Nancheng County Police Department arrested her and sent her to the county detention center. She was detained for two weeks.
Ms. Guan went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong on December 17, 1999. She was illegally arrested at Tiananmen Square and taken back to Nancheng County on December 20 to be detained. One month later, she was sentenced to three years of forced labor and sent to the Jiangxi Province Women's Forced Labor Camp.
While she was detained in the camp Ms. Guan suffered brainwashing, confinement in a solitary compartment, and hard labor.
Ms. Guan was arrested again, this time at home in January 2004. The police claimed that someone in the area was distributing Falun Gong materials, so her home was ransacked. She was detained at the Jinxi County Detention Center for one month. She was blackmailed to pay money for an earlier release, but she refused.
Ms. Guan and two other practitioners were arrested in March 2005 because they were seen together. She was then sent to a detention center, and in November 2005 Ms. Guan was given one year of forced labor and sent to the Jiangxi Province Force Labor Camp.
Family Misery
Ms. Guan was the main caretaker in her family. While she was imprisoned for seven years, her family was in a miserable state. Her husband was under extreme pressure and resumed his addiction to playing cards and drinking.
Without parental care, her son started to wander around, and he was often hungry. Her daughter was denied receiving a visa.
Her over-90-year-old father and over-80-year-old mother passed away in May 2012. They were not able to see Ms. Guan before they died.
