(Minghui.org) “I've had good luck the past couple of years,” said Zhang Xu (pseudonym), a political security director in our village, “so I want to treat you to dinner and thank you in person.” In the past he had helped Falun Gong practitioners in our village, and he was now a successful and happy man. He wanted to tell me about it.
Predicament
He told me that he had received a secret directive a few days before the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, demanding that all Falun Gong practitioners be arrested before the upcoming event.
As the political security director in our village, Zhang was told that it was his responsibility to see that they did not go to Beijing.
He was in a tough spot, because he knew that it was wrong to persecute innocent practitioners. On top of that, he and his family had already quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliates.
As a government official, he had to obey the order, but he did not want to arrest innocent people. So he came up with a brilliant idea: He would announce his intentions over the loudspeaker in the village. “All Falun Gong practitioners: Stay home!” he called out. “Do not leave! I will come and arrest you! Do not move, I am coming!”
Quick Thinking
Zhang was quickly arrested and taken to the police station. The station chief said, “How dare you reveal your intentions through the loudspeakers. What was your intention with that announcement? Now everyone knows! Do you still want your job? How many practitioners did you arrest? Did you do that on purpose?”
“I am doing you a favor, yet you are angry with me,” Zhang said. “Yes, I made a lot of noise. I wanted to make sure they left our area. They are gone now, and you no longer have to worry. If I arrested them, where would you put them? Not only that, their families would come and bother you day after day. They are gone now, and you escaped all kinds of trouble. When officials contact you, all you need to say is that there was no trouble in your area. Nobody can find fault with you.”
The police discussed the issue among themselves and agreed. The chief thought it was a good idea, too. “You're right,” he said. “Why didn't I think of it first? You did a good job. Well done.”
As soon as Zhang got home, the police station called. They wanted to arrest Ms. Yufen (pseudonym), a practitioner. But Zhang told them to hold off until he arrived at the station.
Zhang ran to Ms. Yufen's home to warn her about the impending arrest, but the police were already there and had arrested her. Zhang was having none of it. “Let her go!” he ordered. "Who told you to make an arrest? I am in charge here—this is my district!”
He told Ms. Yufen not to be frightened, because he was in charge. Then he turned to the police and said, “She is at home with her child. She didn't go to Beijing. You told me to keep an eye on her, then you went and arrested her and didn't keep your word. How do you expect me to cooperate with you in the future?”
Thanking Falun Gong
Zhang was a very well liked official and was soon appointed village clerk.
His two children's grades improved and both were accepted into top universities. After graduation, his son got a job in civil service, and his daughter also landed a good job.
Zhang thanked me for telling him the facts about Falun Gong and helping him renounce the CCP. His wife, who was in great pain from rheumatoid arthritis, saw her health improve to the point that she could do work around the house.
Zhang said that his family thanks Falun Gong and its founder for the blessings they've experienced over the past years.
