(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Xiuzhen from Qingdao was arrested on May 2, 2014, and illegally sentenced to three years in Shandong Woman's Prison. She was recently diagnosed with cancer in the Jinan Police Hospital.
Ms. Liu's family applied for a visit to see her in the hospital on June 30, 2015, but were informed that she had been diagnosed with lung cancer and that she would be released on medical parole. The guard then told them not to tell her this.
Ms. Liu had lost a lot of weight and was very weak when her family saw her.
She asked if the prison authorities had contacted them. “I was diagnosed with lung cancer on June 23,” she said. “On your way out, please talk to Li, the head of the prison ward. I should have been released on medical parole by now. Why haven't they informed you?” She told her family that the doctors said the cancer had now spread to her uterus. However, she was only being treated for the lung cancer.
When the family tried to contact Li, they were told that he was on a business trip, but would be back the next day. When they returned to see him, they were still unable to see him.
Diagnosed After Six Months in Detention
Ms. Liu's family tried to see her in prison on November 6, 2014, but were told that she had been taken to the Jinan Police Hospital for a physical exam. The tests revealed a dark spot on her lung and the family was told that she would be treated at the hospital.
When her family members finally saw Ms. Liu, she told them that she could not breath well and was given six bottles of intravenous drips per day.
