(Minghui.org) A Changchun resident serving time for her faith has been forced to sit on a tiny bench for extended periods of time every day since her prison transfer in August 2016.
Ms. Fu Yanfei, 42, was seized from her home on March 14, 2015 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
The local procuratorate denied her bail and family visits on the grounds that she has refused to admit to her “crimes.”
Judge Zhao Junfeng has refused to process Ms. Fu’s signed power of attorney or allow her lawyer to review her case document.
Her family didn’t learn of her upcoming trial until one day before the scheduled court date of March 24, 2016. Her own lawyer was barred from setting foot in the courthouse, while a court-appointed lawyer entered a guilty plea for her.
Judge Zhao sentenced Ms. Fu to 3 years in prison on May 20. The local higher court issued a decision on July 26 to uphold the original verdict without holding a hearing or informing her lawyer.
Ms. Fu was transferred to prison one month later. Once a lecturer at Bohai Petroleum Institute, Ms. Fu quit her job six years ago when her then 2-year-old son was diagnosed with autism. Her imprisonment left her husband to struggle to care for the young boy and her elderly parents.
