(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Long Yumei was sentenced to three years in prison by the Panzhihua Dong District Court in May 2016. She appealed to the Panzhihua City Intermediate Court, but that court upheld her original sentence on November 10.
Ms. Long, 42, is a graduate of Panzhihua University. She was arrested on September 22, 2015 when she was applying for an identification card. She has been detained at the Wanyaoshu Detention Center for more than a year. While detained, Ms. Long was also beaten for doing the Falun Gong exercises.
Ms. Long and her mother were previously arrested in May 2004. She managed to escape, but the police put her on a most wanted list and issued a warrant for her arrest. She was forced to live away from home to avoid persecution for more than 10 years.
Her Mother's Persecution and Death
Ms. Li Taofang, Ms. Long's mother, started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. She was arrested in May 2004 and taken to the Wanyaoshu Detention Center. She was released two months later after being extorted for 5,000 yuan.
During the detention Ms. Li was injected with unknown drugs. When she returned home, she was disoriented and incoherent.
Ms. Li was arbitrarily arrested two additional times by officers from the Jinjiang Police Station and held at the Wanyaoshu Detention Center both times.
Ms. Li incurred great physical and mental harm as a result of being persecuted, and suffered from gastric bleeding. She passed away in 2009 at the age of 62.
