(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zheng Wei was sentenced to a three-year prison term by the Laobian District Court in Yingkou City, for suing former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin, who initiated the persecution of Falun Gong.
According to Chinese Criminal Law, a written judgment should be served to the party concerned and the defense attorney, immediately after pronouncement, but Ms. Wei's family and attorney were not notified.
By the time Ms. Zheng's family learned about the court verdict on December 21, 2016, the deadline to appeal had already passed.
The judge said that she was not obligated to serve judgment to the attorney.
The trial of Ms. Zheng, 52, was conducted on October 19, 2016, at Yingkou Detention Center. Her attorney pleaded not guilty on her behalf.
Officers from the Laobian District Police Department and Lunan Police Station broke into Ms. Zheng's home and ransacked it on October 20, 2015, using the excuse that she had filed a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin for starting the persecution against Falun Gong. The officers confiscated Falun Gong books, two printers, two computers, Falun Gong informational materials, and other personal belongings.
Ms. Zheng was not home at the time. She then had to stay away from her home to avoid further persecution. However, she was arrested at the Yingkou Transit Center on February 11, 2016.
The Laobian District Procuratorate returned Ms. Zheng's case to the police department a couple of times due to insufficient evidence. The police submitted the case to the Procuratorate again on August 15.
Ms. Zheng has been held at the Yingkou City Detention Center.
