(Minghui.org) A Huairou District resident was scheduled to appear in court on December 9 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Mr. Sun Fuyi, 69, was arrested on January 11, 2016. The police forwarded his case to the Shunyi Procuratorate on April 16, but the latter returned the case on May 19, citing insufficient evidence.
Mr. Sun’s family received a phone call from the detention center on June 29, informing them of his precarious health condition. He had developed high blood pressure while in detention, and was sent to a police hospital for treatment. The family immediately asked for medical parole, but was denied. Their lawyer later made several parole requests, which were also denied.
The police fabricated more evidence against Mr. Sun, but the case was returned a second time. Mr. Sun’s lawyer submitted a request to have the case dismissed, but the police managed to have the Procuratorate accept the case and forward it to Shunyi Court, which soon set a trial date for Mr. Sun.
