(Minghui.org) A woman in Xiamen City lost her vision and hearing the day after police arrested her on November 13, 2015 for her practice of Falun Gong, a spiritual practice persecuted by the communist regime.
According to medical experts that her lawyer consulted, conversion disorder, or the temporary blindness and deafness caused by extreme traumatic stress, could become permanent if left untreated.
The police refused to grant Ms. Li Lifang bail for medical treatment, claiming that she was not ill. Her lawyer, on January 22 of this year, requested an official cross-examination on Ms. Li's condition. It took the authorities two months to give a written opinion, confirming that Ms. Li indeed had conversion disorder.
Despite the lawyer's efforts and an official document, the police still denied Ms. Li's medical bail application on the grounds that the illness was not life-threatening.
Ms. Li is unable to care for herself and has not received necessary care in the detention center. Her health continues to deteriorate, and she has exhibited symptoms of amnesia.
