(Minghui.org) I began practicing Falun Dafa in 1995 and am always willing to help fellow practitioners when asked. So I thought!
One day a practitioner asked me to fix her printer problem. I was studying the Fa teachings at the time, and thought that it would not take me long to help her out.
When I arrived at her home, she asked me to fix the printer and then locate the Minghui Weekly on the Internet. This was not a problem because I was familiar with both issues.
While repairing the computer I taught her the fundamentals. I removed the printer head, washed it with warm water, and showed her how to put it back. However, when we ran a test, there was a blank area on the printout, so we repeated the process, but this time the problem had worsened. I got impatient, because I wanted to continue with my Fa study. I thought that it would be best to call a fellow practitioner who handles this type of problem.
Yet, I did not want to give up. I suddenly thought it might be the ink box, so I removed it, cleaned it well, and put it back. This fixed the problem.
During the process of fixing the machine, I discovered a strong attachment of mine–selfishness. I wanted to study the Fa, wanted to improve, and not use so much time repairing this computer, as it was not part of my personal responsibility.
Master showed me my “selfish heart.” This notion was formed postnatally, as everything in it was about me. I asked myself, “Then why do I cultivate?” I cultivate to eliminate selfishness, and reach the realm of selflessness, the standard of the future cosmos.
During the process of cultivation, if one does not align to the Fa's standard, no matter how much Fa one reads, it is still useless.
Master told us:
“ To tell you the truth, the entire cultivation process for a practitioner is one of constantly giving up human attachments.” (Zhuan Falun)
Helping others is helping oneself. Fixing the machine can also improve one's xinxing. I will pay more attention to my notions, eliminate them, and improve and elevate within the Fa.
