(Minghui.org) Many Chinese tourists go abroad during the summer for vacation. Oftentimes, when tourists from China visit Taiwan, they get a chance to encounter a different side of Falun Gong than what the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) media portrays.
However, in this story, a tourist from China speaks up for Falun Gong to a Taiwanese tour guide who held misconceptions due to the CCP's propaganda about the practice.
While traveling in Taiwan with a tour group, a lawyer from China saw a Falun Gong group distributing information at a tourist site. But the tour guide she was with told the group not to check out the Falun Gong posters and flyers. The guide seemed to have misconceptions about Falun Gong, including the common falsehood started by the CCP, that practitioners outside China are paid by their government to distribute “anti-China” information. Thus, many people in the group were afraid of approaching the Falun Gong information display.
When the lawyer started to approach the Falun Gong information display anyway, the tour guide tried to stop her. The lawyer said, “Why not check it out? Shouldn't we at least hear them out?”
This lawyer happens to have relatives in China who practice Falun Gong, and has defended practitioners in court, so she already had extensive knowledge of the issue.
Before she returned to China, she left a letter with her Taiwanese tour guide asking her not to stop people from China from learning the facts about Falun Gong. She pointed out that people should have the opportunity to access all kinds of information and make a judgement on their own.
