(Minghui.org) Ms. Wu Sumei and Ms. Wu Suyue from Zhejiang Province were tried by Linhai City Court on May 19 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual practice being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. The trial will resume on May 27.
Both women testified how they benefited from practicing Falun Gong. Their attorney repeatedly asked to call his witnesses to take the stand, but the judge refused to allow it.
Ms. Wu Suyue's blood pressure rose to 235 mmHg during the hearing; as a result, she could not attend the afternoon session. Her lawyer's request to release her for medical treatment was denied.
Three days before the trial, the judge informed the defendants that only immediate family members would be allowed to attend. The Lucheng Community Party Secretary phoned local Falun Gong practitioners and told them they were not allowed to attend.
The court was heavily guarded on the day of the trial. Except for immediate family members, all other relatives and friends were taken to the second floor to watch a video feed of the trial.
At the last moment, their relatives and friends were able to enter the courtroom after Ms. Wu Sumei and Ms. Wu Suyue registered strong objections.
