(Minghui.org) Insisting that one is right is a demonstration of the attachment to “self.” Ever since I started practicing Falun Dafa 18 years ago, I rarely got into conflicts with others, so I never realized that I had this attachment – until recently.
I gave 100 yuan to a young practitioner to buy a phone card for me. I remember handing her the bill, but did not remember her giving the card to me. After searching my wallet and not finding any card, I was sure that she forgot, because she often forgot things.
When we met again in the Fa study group, in front of everyone, I asked her for the phone card. She replied that she'd already given it to me when collecting the money. I insisted that I could not be wrong because I had a good memory. I repeated several times that she often forgot things. The young practitioner became very upset, and she immediately listed several examples to prove that I also had a poor memory. Then I became upset and started to argue with her. Soon our arguments became a real quarrel. Both of us were so angry that the group Fa study dispersed.
A practitioner told me then, “You are wrong! You are too attached to yourself.” On my way home, another practitioner kept discussing with me about the attachment to “self.”
It took me a while to calm down and see the fundamental problem. I insisted on proving that she was wrong and I was right, while I should have looked inward. The more I insisted, the more she resisted and fought back. Master arranged the opportunity to help me get rid of the fighting mentality and attachment towards “self.” Not only had I failed the test, my behavior also interfered with the group Fa study.
Right after I realized this, I felt something in my pocket. It was the missing phone card. Indeed I was wrong from the very beginning! It was so embarrassing that I wished I wouldn't have to see the young practitioner again.
Through this incident, I saw my attachment to “self,” the fighting mentality, and the embarrassment after finding the card reflected my attachment to reputation. I will eliminate them, so that we can coordinate better to help Master during the Fa rectification.
