(Minghui.org) I couldn't help but be touched by watching a practitioner’s behavior one time, exhibiting a pure heart, and kindness toward others.
A new police officer was assigned to a tourist site in Taiwan. He had no sympathy for Falun Gong and ordered us to remove our information boards about the practice and the persecution. We tried to tell him about Falun Gong, but he refused to listen.
There was a day of heavy rain soon after, and he had no protection. One of our practitioners handed him a pink umbrella, but he refused to accept it, saying that it wouldn't look right for him to hold a pink umbrella. The practitioner apologized for only having the one. The officer responded with just a nod.
A few days later he was on duty again. The same practitioner greeted him. He replied, “Don’t talk to me about Falun Gong.” The practitioner smiled and said that they just wanted to say hello.
They met again for a third time on another rainy day. The practitioner handed him an umbrella – this one was blue. The officer mentioned that he forgot to wear his raincoat. The practitioner said, “You can use this umbrella.”
He replied with a grin, “Thanks, but that wont be necessary. I'll be off-duty soon.”
When the practitioner enthusiastically greeted the officer the next time she saw him, he questioned, “Why are you so nice to me?”
“Why shouldn't I be?” responded the practitioner. “You're doing a great job here.”
It was raining again a few days later. The practitioner walked over to the officer with an umbrella in hand. His tone was very different this time, and said, “I have my raincoat today, but thank you for your kindness. How late do you plan to stay?”
“We'll be here until the Chinese tourists are gone,” replied the practitioner.
He then asked why we were so persistent, and why the Communist Party was persecuting Falun Gong. The practitioner was happy to tell him, and they had a pleasant conversation.
The officer became sympathetic to Falun Gong after that, and we were allowed to display our boards again from then on.
Real “compassion” is unconditional. Our pure hearts and kind thoughts can change people’s attitudes.
