(Minghui.org) A 77-year-old man from Baiyin City is facing trial for accusing former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin of initiating the persecution of Falun Gong that resulted in his lengthy incarceration.
Mr. Jia Peiful was twice given forced labor and twice sentenced to prison for refusing to renounce his faith in Falun Gong. Having spent a total of 10.5 years in various detention facilities, the retired security director of Renminlu Branch of China Construction Bank holds Jiang responsible for his ordeal.
Mr. Jia filed a criminal complaint against Jiang in the second half of 2015. The local Renminlu Police Station summoned him for an interrogation in January of this year, asking if he had sued Jiang and why.
While the police did not arrest Mr. Jia that day, they demanded that he report to them every day. He refused initially, but later still went to the local procuratorate, after the authorities pressured his son to persuade him to make the trip.
A prosecutor confirmed to Mr. Jia that his case had been forwarded to the procuratorate, and he’d be indicted soon. Around July 20, he received a notice from the local court informing him of an upcoming trial.
Mr. Jia has hired a lawyer to defend his constitutional right to seek justice against Jiang for infringing upon his freedom of belief.
