(Minghui.org) A 67-year-old Dalian woman is facing trial for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Ms. Xu Guilan was getting ready for the day on June 28, 2016 when police broke in at 6 a.m. and ransacked her home. They confiscated her computer, printer, and other valuables before taking her to Wuyiguangchang Police Station. She was subjected to a marathon interrogation session that lasted until 10 p.m. that day. The police transferred her to Dalian Detention Center the following day.
Ms. Xu’s husband, who does not practice Falun Gong, was seized on his way to work at around the same time. He wasn’t released until 11 p.m. The next day, he received his wife’s detention notice, but his request to visit her at the detention center was denied.
He hired a lawyer to seek his wife’s release. The lawyer met with Ms. Xu for the first time in July and noted that she had lost a lot of weight. She complained that she had an irregular heartbeat. She also told him that she refused to wear the inmate uniform or do forced labor because she broke no law by practicing Falun Gong.
The lawyer went to review her case on January 6, 2017 and was told that she’d be tried after the Chinese New Year (January 28). The exact court date, though, is unknown.
