(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhao Li, 58, a Falun Gong practitioner in Xi'an City, has been held in the Yanta District Detention Center for more than eight months because she sued former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin. The Domestic Security Division continues to hold her in custody, claiming that Ms. Zhao "is in contact with too many people.”
Ms. Zhao Li was arrested after getting off work on the night shift by officers from the Yanta District Domestic Security Division in the early morning hours on April 15, 2016.
Years of Persecution
Soon after the communist regime launched the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Zhao Li went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice this traditional spiritual discipline. She was arrested and transferred to Xi'an by officers from the Xi'an City 610 Office. She was given one-and-a-half years of forced labor without a trial. She was tortured and almost died in the Shaanxi Province Women's Forced Labor Camp.
The Supreme People's Court of China announced in May 2015 that it was legal to file criminal and civil complaints. Ms. Zhao exercised her right to file a criminal complaint with the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Supreme People's Court against Jiang Zemin for ordering the persecution of Falun Gong.
Background
In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.
The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners over the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.
Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.
Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
