(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhang Fengxia, a Falun Gong practitioner from Lingyuan City, was recently sentenced to four years in prison after being tried by the Lingyuan City Court on November 14, 2016.
Ms. Zhang was a waitress at a restaurant. The restaurant owner was arrested in early June for showing NTD (New Tang Dynasty Television, an independent Chinese news network based in the US) programs in the restaurant. Officers from the Lingyuan Domestic Security Division claimed that Ms. Zhang had been talking to others about installing satellite television equipment to view NTD, and the officers arrested her on July 4, 2016.
Ms. Zhang was charged with “using a cult organization to undermine law enforcement,” a generic charge used by the Chinese Communist Party to imprison Falun Gong practitioners. There is no basis for the charge in Chinese law. Ms. Zhang did not admit to the charge.
The attorney pleaded not guilty on her behalf during the trial. He pointed out that the charge was unfounded and lacked evidence.
Ms. Zhang is being held at Chaoyang Detention Center. Her attorney met with her there on September 19, and learned that her health was poor and that she had heart problems.
Ms. Zhang's family and attorney went to the Lingyuan Domestic Security Division to apply for Ms. Zhang's release due to her medical condition. Their request was ignored.
