(Minghui.org) A Nanjing City resident has been detained since her arrest following an 11-day standoff with police almost two years ago.
Ms. Fu Yurong was targeted because she refused to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Ms. Fu and her family were home on May 13, 2015 when a group of officers tricked them into opening the door and broke in. Ms. Fu rushed to hide in a room, while her husband and parents-in-law did their best to stop her from being taken away. Her mother-in-law laid outside the room so the police couldn’t get close to pry open the door.
Her father-in-law tried to talk the police away, only to have his head held tightly by a few officers. His grandchild cried in fear.
The police retreated out of Ms. Fu’s apartment unit after a while but stationed two officers right outside the door. The family noticed that the peephole had been blocked.
Xiao Ningjiang, head of the local domestic security office and who led the arrest attempt earlier in the day, returned to Ms. Fu’s home hours later. He promised to set Ms. Fu free if she would go with him to the police station to admit her “mistake.”
Ms. Fu refused, and Xiao threatened to arrest her husband for “assaulting police” should he ever step outside. Ms. Fu was not deterred.
Xiao left Ms. Fu’s home empty-handed but kept officers stationed both inside and outside the apartment building over the next 11 days. He eventually arrested Ms. Fu on May 24.
Ms. Fu was tried in 2016 and is still awaiting her verdict at Nanjing City Detention Center.
