(Minghui.org) Police in Xinbin County have refused to release a local woman whose case has twice been dismissed due to insufficient evidence.
Ms. Sun Jing was arrested on December 7, 2016 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. The local procuratorate declined to issue a formal arrest warrant against her and returned the case to police.
Zhao Lianke, head of Xinbin County Domestic Security Office, consulted with Fushu City Political and Legal Affairs Committee – an agency given power to override the judicial branch in the regime’s campaign against Falun Gong – and was instructed to fabricate evidence against Ms. Sun.
Zhao proceeded to count the 1,700 loose pages of copy paper confiscated from Ms. Sun’s home as 280 table calendars bearing Falun Gong messages. He then pressured the procuratorate to issue a formal arrest warrant on January 10, 2017.
Ms. Sun’s lawyer met with Zhao one week later, urging him to drop the case. The lawyer reminded Zhao that no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong, and that his client had every right to freedom of belief and freedom of the press.
The lawyer visited the police department again on January 24, and Zhao said he was just following orders to proceed with Ms. Sun’s prosecution.
The lawyer made several requests to the procuratorate in March, demanding the case be dropped.
Ms. Sun’s case was returned to police again shortly afterwards, but to date she remains at Fushun City Detention Center.
