(Minghui.org) I am a Falun Gong practitioner, and the following is from a prosecutor who witnessed an incident with his colleague.
The incident happened in the thick of the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
It was in August 1999, and a local procuratorate in a city in China was holding a meeting to denounce Falun Gong. A banner reading “Outlaw Falun Gong” was hung above the podium, and there were people assigned to take pictures and notes.
The Party secretary opened the meeting by reading a document from the higher-up authorities to ban Falun Gong. He then pledged his allegiance to the Party. One prosecutor after another followed to denounce Falun Gong.
Then it was the turn for the last prosecutor who hadn’t made any statement. He seemed to have dozed off. The secretary woke him up, and he said, “I haven’t really followed the news yet, so I’m not prepared to make any statement. Just like a person who has never eaten grapes wouldn’t know the taste of grapes. I am not a Falun Gong practitioner, so I am not qualified to evaluate its merit.”
Everyone else was stunned. They knew that his refusal to take a stance was equivalent to criticizing others for badmouthing Falun Gong.
As a matter of fact, this particular prosecutor just had a cancer surgery and was meant to be resting at home. But he was told that everyone must attend this important meeting.
The secretary didn’t press on.
The prosecutor made a full recovery not long afterward. One year later, he applied for an early retirement. His colleagues understood that he didn’t want to participate in the persecution of Falun Gong.
Eighteen years have passed and this prosecutor is still well and alive. He knows that his support for Falun Gong has brought him blessings.
