(Minghui.org) A translator who works for a foreign company in Dalian City was recently taken to Liaoning Women's Prison to serve a two-year prison sentence for practicing Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline persecuted by the communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Jia Xiuchun was convicted by the Dalian Economic and Technological Development District Court in June 2018, following a court hearing on April 20. The prosecutor charged her for possessing Falun Gong books at home. She and her lawyer argued that no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong and it's her constitutionally-protected right to pursue spiritual belief.
The presiding judge adjourned the hearing without a decision but said that he would announce the verdict after discussing the case with a collegial panel of judges.
Ms. Jia was arrested in October 2016 during a business trip in Dunhua, Jilin Province. She was held at the Dalian Detention Center before being taken to Liaoning Women's Prison, where Falun Gong practitioners are subjected to brutal torture to force them to give up their belief.
