(Minghui.org) A Tianjin woman who was imprisoned in March 2019 is being tortured for not renouncing her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wang Cuilan was subjected to intensive brainwashing by the prison guards and their assistants as they attempted to force her to give up her faith. When she insisted that it is her constitutional rights and freedom of belief to practice Falun Gong, the guards forced her to stand for long hours each day.
Ms. Wang soon developed medical problems as a result of the abuse. When her daughter visited her at the prison in early April, Ms. Wang was very weak and couldn’t stand or walk without assistance.
Lawyer Retaliated Against for Representing Ms. Wang
Ms. Wang was arrested on September 30, 2017 after she was filmed on surveillance cameras passing out Falun Gong informational materials. She was held at the Dongli District Detention Center.
The Kaifa District Court held four hearings concerning her case, on May 15, August 3, August 8 and October 19, 2018. The judge adjourned each hearing without issuing a verdict.
Ms. Wang's lawyer later had his law license revoked for six months for defending a Falun Gong practitioner in court.
Ms. Wang’s daughter went to the detention center to visit her on March 26, 2019 and discovered that she had been sentenced to three-and-a-half years and had already been taken to Tianjin Women’s Prison to begin serving time.
