(Minghui.org) A woman took a fall while riding her bike. A passerby called police for help. A few officers arrived and arrested her upon discovering that she had materials about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Yu Qionghua was kept at a detention center for a week and then taken to a mental hospital for another week before being released (Chinese authorities often use these facilities to force Falun Gong practitioners to renounce their faith).
Ms. Yu was force-fed unknown drugs and had her hands and feet cuffed at the detention center. Her hands remain numb upon returning home. She feels sleepy all the time and suffers from a constant hallucination of wanting to leave home.
The 51-year-old woman is an employee at a canned food factory in Kunming City, Yunnan Province. She was taken to Yueyatang Police Station after she was seized on the street on May 5, 2019.
Four officers brought Ms. Yu to her home the next day to search for Falun Gong materials. Her 79-year-old mother protested the raid. She defended Falun Gong and said her daughter's health improved dramatically after learning it. The officers ignored her and continued to search the rooms. Without finding anything, they took Ms. Yu to the Kunming No.1 Detention Center for further confinement.
Later that day, an officer sent the detention notice to Ms. Yu's parents and threatened to sentence her to three or four years in prison.
Ms. Yu's 92-year-old father was terrified and unable to eat for several days.
Ms. Yu's mother and her other family members went to the police station several times to demand her release. On May 11, they were told to pick her up. When they arrived at the police station, however, they were told she'd have to stay in a local mental hospital for another week.
Ms. Yu's family questioned why the police would send a perfectly healthy person to the mental hospital. Officers threatened to keep her in the detention center for a longer time if her family declined to have her sent to the mental hospital. Her family had no choice but to agree to the hospital stay.
Ms. Yu was released one week later.
