(Minghui.org) One Liaocheng City, Shandong Province resident was recently sentenced to a four-year prison term for her faith in Falun Gong. Another two women are facing trial for their shared faith.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zeng Youmei was arrested and had her home ransacked on February 1, 2020. She was indicted by the Dong’e County Procuratorate around September 23. While it’s not clear when she was sentenced, it was confirmed by the Minghui.org website that she has appealed the verdict with the Liaocheng City Intermediate Court.
The other two practitioners, Ms. Ma Yuzhi, 76, and Ms. Zhang Wenling, 60, were arrested on March 17, 2020 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. Both were placed under house arrest for six months.
The police harassed both Ms. Ma and Ms. Zhang in early August, and then on August 12, attempting to force them to write statements renouncing Falun Gong. They refused to comply. The police also said they had submitted the practitioners’ cases to the Procuratorate and that they were facing prosecution.
Both women were also indicted by the Dong’e County Procuratorate around September 23. They were taken back into custody on October 16 and are being detained in a detention facility in Dong’e County.
