(Minghui.org) A Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province resident who has been detained for a year for her faith in Falun Gong is now facing trial.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Xie Wei was arrested at home on July 26, 2019. Her family told a Minghui correspondent that the police waited outside of her home, and arrested her when she went out. The police also ransacked her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books and other personal belongings.
Ms. Xie was not the only one targeted for her faith. Within a few weeks following July 25, 2019, at the command from the Public Security Bureau in Heilongjiang Province, the police in Jiamusi arrested at least 52 practitioners and harassed more than a hundred. Many practitioners were forced to live away from home.
Mr. Yang Shengjun died nine days after his arrest on August 2. Ms. Dong Huanxiu’s father-in-law was so terrified by the police during her arrest on July 27 that he passed away five days later. Ms. Fan Guiqin’s 82-year-old bedridden husband also died in despair, several months after the arrest of his sole caregiver-wife.
Ms. Xie was held at the Jiamusi Detention Center after her arrest. A prosecutor from the Xiangyang District Procuratorate visited her in the detention center in mid-June 2020 and gave her a copy of her indictment. The prosecutor told her that she was scheduled to appear in Xiangyang District Court in early August.
For upholding her faith that she credits with curing her psoriasis, Ms. Xie has been arrested several times and served a labor camp term and a prison term.
Ms. Xie was previously arrested at her family-run shop in August 2007 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. Her home was ransacked.
She was arrested again on April 4, 2009 and given a labor camp term of an unknown length. While in detention, she was suspended by her handcuffed wrists and subjected to other forms of torture at the Harbin Drug Rehab Center.
Ms. Xie was arrested one more time on February 23, 2016 and sentenced to 1.5 years by the Qianjin District Court on July 22, 2016.
