(Minghui.org) A Nancheng County, Jiangxi Province, resident was secretly sentenced to Jiangxi Province Women’s Prison after her arrest in August 2019 for practicing Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Luo Jianrong, 54, took up Falun Gong in 2010. Her health was improved and her character was elevated.
Only one year into her practice, Ms. Luo was arrested while reading Falun Gong’s teachings along with several other practitioners. She was sentenced to a 1.5-year term at Jiangxi Province Women’s Forced Labor Camp. Because she upheld her faith, she was put in solitary confinement, made to perform unpaid labor, and forced to watch propaganda materials that demonized Falun Gong.
About one year after being released in October 2012, she was arrested again on October 8, 2013, at her family-run store. The police searched the store and confiscated many of her Falun Gong informational materials. She was beaten while being detained at the Linchuan No. 2 Detention Center.
Ms. Luo appeared in Linchuan Court on January 17, 2014, and was sentenced to four years in Jiangxi Province Women’s Prison in March 2014.
Because she refused to do unpaid labor, the guards forced her to stand every day facing the wall for one and a half years. She was also beaten and had freezing water poured over her in the winter when she refused to follow the prison rules. The guards force-fed her when she held a hunger strike to protest the persecution. She lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. After the guards failed to force her to renounce her faith after rounds of torture, they made her take nerve-damaging drugs for two months.
The prison authorities denied her family visits for more than two years. She was released on October 7, 2017, after enduring four horrendous years.
Upon returning home, Ms. Luo was devastated to find that her family store had been forced to close, and her husband and son had moved out of town to make a living. To avoid further persecution, she also moved to another city and did odd jobs to support herself.
Officers broke into Ms. Luo’s home on April 21, 2019, and arrested her. She was released a week later.
Ms. Luo went to the police station on August 12, 2019, hoping to clarify the facts about Falun Gong to the officers and urge them not to participate in the persecution.
Two days later, the police arrested her and took her to Fuzhou City Detention Center. The authorities secretly sentenced her without her family’s knowledge. Her exact prison term remains to be investigated.
