(Minghui.org) Two sisters in Gaungzhou City, Guangdong Province were waiting for the bus after grocery shopping on March 31, 2020 when a group of officers showed up to check passengers' IDs.
Upon finding that the sisters were carrying some banknotes printed with information about Falun Gong, the police arrested them and proceeded to ransack their residences. A few copies of their Falun Gong books and keepsakes were confiscated.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. Due to strict information censorship in China, many Falun Gong practitioners are using creative ways to spread information about the persecution, including printing messages on banknotes.
Ms. Zheng Yingying, 68, a retired beer company employee, and her sister Ms. Zheng Yingzhu, 63, had their arrests approved by the Baiyun District Procuratorate on April 30. The prosecutor transferred their cases to the Liwan District Procuratorate on July 10.
In late July 2020, the older sister was indicted and had her case submitted to the Liwan District Court. The younger sister’s case is still with the Liwan District Procuratorate at the time of writing. Both of them are now held at Baiyun District Detention Center.
In the past few years, all Falun Gong related cases in Baiyun District are handled by the Liwan District Court. The judge in charge of the cases, Cao Zhengyao, has sentenced at least seven practitioners to prison, including Mr. Wu Jianming, Mr. Yan Rongjie, Mr. Xu Zhiyin and his wife Ms. Liu Xin, Ms. Pan Shuping, Ms. Wang Jiafang, and Ms. Feng Guangyun.
Prior to their latest arrests, Ms. Zheng Yingying served one year of forced labor in 2008 for her faith, and Ms. Zheng Yingzhu was held in a brainwashing center in 2017.
