(Minghui.org) After Falun Gong practitioners’ two decades of peacefully raising awareness of the persecution of their faith in China, many people, from taxi drivers to police officers and government officials, have understood the facts about Falun Gong and refuse to participate in the persecution. Below are a few such stories.
Taxi Driver Defends a Practitioner
The Political and Legal Affairs Committee in Mishan City, Heilongjiang Province recently issued a public notice on the social media app WeChat, offering monetary rewards to incentivize people to report Falun Gong practitioners. While some people became interested, more remained indifferent.
Hui, a Falun Gong practitioner in her 70s, was distributing Falun Gong informational materials on July 27, 2020, when a man in his 40s came after her upon receiving a brochure from her.
“Hey, madam, you better come with me to the police station.” He showed her the WeChat notification and said, “We were notified that if we catch a Falun Gong practitioner, we will be paid 500 yuan. So please come with me.”
Hui immediately went into a taxi parked on the side and told the driver that someone was after her. Before the driver started the car, the man also got in the car. He said to the driver: “Do not take her. She is a Falun Gong practitioner.”
The driver replied, “What is your problem? She is an elderly woman. A Falun Gong practitioner, so what? If you report her and something happens to her, wouldn’t her family go after you?”
The man seemed to get it and lowered his head. Hui got out of the car, and so did the man. They went separate ways, and he gave up his “reward.”
Police Reluctant to Carry Out Persecution
Since March 2020, the authorities in Henan Province have been carrying out a new round of harassment of local Falun Gong practitioners. But some police officers are now refusing to follow the order.
A practitioner in Zhengzhou City was reported to the police for talking to people about Falun Gong in March. The police found his address and searched his home. He was soon released after the police didn’t find any Falun Gong materials there. Another practitioner in the Jiaozuo area arrested in May was also released the day after his arrest.
While officers ransacked a practitioner’s home in Zhengzhou on July 17, they pretended not to see Falun Gong material and searched other areas. They eventually left without arresting the practitioner or taking any of his valuables or materials.
The Village Head Who Knew the Truth Well
A village chief in a small town in northeastern China also supports Falun Gong practitioners and quietly protects them.
When the authorities ordered him to harass practitioners and force them to sign statements to renounce their faith a few months ago, he refused to comply. He said to the practitioners, “This is my territory. I won’t intervene when you do your things. I will try my best to protect you.”
The village chief kept a Falun Gong keepsake on the rearview mirror of his car. He said to a practitioner that he felt his improvement in health in the past few years was a blessing for his support of Falun Gong.
