(Minghui.org) A Weifang City, Shandong Province resident was forced to stand trial on September 23, 2022 and wrongfully sentenced to four years for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Li Maiying, in her 50s, was arrested on May 11, 2022, after being recorded by street surveillance cameras putting up posters about Falun Gong. Her home was ransacked. By the time she was released on bail, she had already been indicted by the Fangzi District Procuratorate, according to the Fangzi District Domestic Security Office.
The Fangzi District Court informed Ms. Li in early September that she was scheduled to appear in court weeks later. As she insisted that she didn’t break any law and refused to attend the hearing, the police forcibly took her to the court on September 23. She was handed down a four-year sentence at the end of the hearing. It’s not clear where she is detained right now.
Ms. Li, a retired employee of the Fangzi District Education Bureau, lost her job and had her pension suspended for upholding her faith. Prior to her latest sentencing, she was given one year of forced labor in late 2004 and another labor camp term of one year and a half in August 2011.
