(Minghui.org) A 61-year-old Beijing resident was sentenced to two years on November 8, 2022, for practicing Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Lai Xiuchun was arrested on September 15, 2021, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. The police ransacked her home and later released her on bail. The authorities harassed her several times entering 2022 and prosecutors from the Miyun District Procuratorate came to her home three times to question her.
Three officers scaled the fence and broke into Ms. Lai’s home on March 5, 2022, and took her to the Miyun District Domestic Security Office. She was then brought to the hospital and forced to do an extensive physical examination, including an MRI. She was released after the local lockup refused to admit her.
The police arrested Ms. Lai again at home on July 12 and brought her to the Miyun District Procuratorate for questioning. She was sent back home afterward.
The Miyun District Court tried Ms. Lai on November 8 and sentenced her to two years.
Since the onset of the persecution, Ms. Lai, a once bedridden patient who regained health by practicing Falun Gong, has been repeatedly incarcerated for upholding her faith.
She was detained for 15 days in November 2000 for appealing for Falun Gong. For talking to people about Falun Gong, she was given 2 and 2.5 years of forced labor in August 2006 and March 2011, respectively. She was detained again for 15 days in October 2015 for talking to people about Falun Gong. Prior to her latest sentencing, she was given 1.5 years in prison in November 2018.
