(Minghui.org) Sima Nan and He Zuoxiu are both notorious for their roles as propaganda mouthpieces for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), attacking various religions and spiritual practices, including Falun Gong.
On December 18, Sima posted a message online titled, “I have an appeal.”
“He Zuoxiu just called me saying he and his wife were both infected with Covid and his wife’s condition is even worse,” wrote the post. “He had a low mood and was depressed. He was dehydrated and may not be able to get through this.”
“Their child is in Shanghai where the situation is even worse,” Sima continued. “So far no medical professionals offered help, nor did the neighborhood administration or the Chinese Academy of Sciences [where He is an academician].”
Sima probably only meant to show how much he cared about his friend, but his post didn’t fly with He, who probably didn’t want the post to lead the public to think the CCP system was not perfect. Sima ended up posting another message to apologize to He and glorify the CCP. He wrote, “Upon seeing my earlier post online, the leadership at the Chinese Academy of Sciences soon arranged medical care for Academician He, who called me a few times to assure me that he and his wife were not as ill as I described in my earlier post. They blamed me for publicizing their situation and resulting many phone calls to check in with them. As a result, they couldn’t rest well.”
Some netizens commented that the interaction between Sima and He was just a farce meant to show the CCP’s quick response to people’s appeal for help.
Over the years, Sima and He worked closely in promoting pro-CCP messages, attacking the United States and targeting Falun Gong as well as other faith systems.
Double-Faced 50-Cent Party Member
Sima often openly defended the CCP and criticized the U.S., earning the title “a prominent member of the 50-Cent Party [online commentators paid 50 cents per post by the CCP to promote CCP propaganda]. A 2017 article in the American Political Science Review found that the 50-Cent Party produced 488 million pro-CCP social media posts per year to mislead the public and dominate public opinion.
Like many other political pawns, Sima was exposed for being double-faced. Hours after declaring the U.S. the “enemy of the entire world” and “a huge tumor” in January 2012, he flew to the U.S. to meet his family. Upon being questioned by netizens why he said one thing but did another, he replied, “Confronting the U.S. is my job, and visiting/staying in the U.S. is my life.”
But the absurdity is beyond that. Sima claimed to be living at 8 South Luogu Lane in the Dongcheng District of Beijing. But when netizens went to check, they found the address was actually just a public restroom.
Such lies existed in other aspects of his life as well. Although Sima always denied owning property in the U.S. to align with his anti-America career, netizens discovered that he purchased a property in Fremont, California, in March 2010. The property is located at 1960 Barrymore Cmn, Unit E, Fremont, CA 94538. Sima’s wife and son are listed as homeowners. Facing criticism from other 50-Cent Party members for “betrayal,” Sima had no choice but admit the existence of the house in August 2022.
Political Pawns
He Zuoxiu has his own stories. Even at a young age, he was a political opportunist. Back in college, he was interested in applying Marxism to the field of natural science, which landed him a job at the Central Propaganda Department. Continuing on that path, he applied Marxism in theoretical physics, which helped him become an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in nuclear physics. To please Jiang Zemin, who rose to the top CCP position through cracking down on the student democratic movement in 1989, He even stretched quantum mechanics to “interpret” Jiang’s “three representatives” theories.
Seeing Jiang and his follower Luo Gan trying to make trouble for the peaceful meditation system of Falun Gong, He offered help. Luo was then-Party Secretary of Central Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC) and his wife was a sister of He’s wife.
He already defamed Falun Gong with false information in Beijing Television Station in May 1998. After practitioners peacefully approached the station and talked about how He’s presentation was incorrect, an official at the television station said this was the worst mistake the station had made in its history and later aired footage showing practitioners’ peaceful exercises in a park. After this incident, a deputy mayor of Beijing issued a policy that banned the news media in Beijing from interviewing He.
But He did not give up and published an article slandering Falun Gong in the Youth Science and Technology Expo magazine in Tianjin on April 11, 1999. Upon hearing practitioners clarifying the facts of Falun Gong, the editorial office initially agreed to make corrections. But later the office walked back its decision, citing an order from “higher-ups” and called police to arrest practitioners. Dozens of Tianjin practitioners were beaten and detained, and officials said the order to arrest them came from Beijing. Officials in Tianjin asked practitioners who sought their release to go to Beijing to appeal.
Practitioners gathered en masse close to the State Council Appeal Office on April 25, 1999 requesting to release the detained practitioners, however, Jiang later used this peaceful appeal as an excuse to launch the massive persecution against Falun Gong in July 1999.
Villains Colluding Together
Sima and He were both vice presidents of the so-called China Anti-Cult Association. In the name of science and religion, both of them gave directions producing false information to stir up hatred from the public against Falun Gong.
While Jiang, Luo, and their extrajudicial agency of 610 Office systematically implemented the persecution policy in the law enforcement, justice system, government agencies, news media, schools, and business organizations, Sima and He targeted other aspects of society through their “Anti-Cult Association” making the suppression more comprehensive and harmful.
Facing Consequences
Being political pawns of the CCP is tiring. When the wind changes direction, any one could become the victim in the next political campaign. There have been countless examples in the CCP’s numerous campaigns.
Some netizens believe that He may have already been deemed useless by the CCP, which explained why he didn’t get needed medical care as fast as he’d like. There are also people who believe that He’s infection is an indication that he’s receiving retribution for being the CCP’s mouthpiece.
When the CCP is phased out by history for its brutality and lies, Sima and He, as well as many others who follow the CCP, cannot escape the fate of sinking with the regime. Only those who follow their conscience and principles will be blessed with safety and security.
