(Minghui.org) A 69-year-old Beijing resident was recently sentenced to two years for practicing Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Jingfang was arrested in September 2022 and has been held at the Miyun District Detention Center since. Details about her sentencing aren’t available at the time of writing.
Prior to Ms. Liu’s latest sentencing, she previously served two labor camp terms for a total of four and a half years. The first two-year term was given nine days after she was arrested on December 22, 2005 for distributing Falun Gong materials. Only six months after she was released, she was arrested again on May 17, 2008 and given another labor camp term of two and a half years.
The authorities transferred Ms. Liu and another 60 practitioners from Beijing to the notorious Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Liaoning Province. Because she shouted “Falun Dafa is good” in protest, the guards hung her up by the wrists. The wound bled and festered, and didn’t heal for a long time.
Torture reenactment: Being hung up
The labor camp later established a strict management team to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Almost everyone was subjected to excruciating stretch torture and shocked with electric batons on sensitive parts of their bodies, such as the armpit, inner thigh and head. Some practitioners were hung up by the wrists for days on end.
To avoid international scrutiny for its brutal persecution of Falun Gong, the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp kept changing its name. The upstairs of the production workshop had a door plate that said “Skill Practice Building.” On January 10, 2010, the front gate of the workshop had a new doorplate that said “First Factory Branch of Liaoning Xinyu Garment Company.” Only nine months later, it became the “Masanjia Drug Rehabilitation Center.”
Ms. Liu and fifteen others were forced to attend courses about drug rehabilitation on October 25, 2010, even though none of them were drug addicts. As she said that practicing Falun Gong was the best way for rehabilitation, the guards didn’t allow her to have lunch and beat her in the afternoon. Her face was severely swollen and deformed. Her neck and body were covered with bruises.
Ms. Liu was arrested again on January 6, 2014 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. Her home was ransacked and she was detained at the Beijing Detention Center.
