(Minghui.org) A 70-year-old woman in Changchun City, Jilin Province has been held in a hospital and given unknown drugs against her will for almost a year.
Ms. Liu Jingxiu, who lives alone, was arrested on May 29 or 30, 2022 for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999. The police took her to the Changchun City Fourth Detention Center (also known as Xinglongshan Detention Center), but did not give her family any updates on her case status.
One of Ms. Liu’s relatives later learned from an insider that she was transferred to the police-supervised section on the sixth floor of Changchun City Central Hospital around July 2022. This particular section is used to treat ill suspects in police custody, and is known to locals as the police-mini-hospital.
This is not the first time that Ms. Liu has been held at the same police-mini-hospital and given unknown drugs after she was arrested for her faith.
Ms. Liu was previously arrested on August 6, 2020 for talking to people about Falun Gong. The arresting officers from the Nanguangchang Police Station and the Kuancheng District Domestic Security Office took her for a physical examination, where she was found to have high blood pressure and a brain tumor. The police refused to release her and took her to a few local detention facilities, which all declined to admit her given her health conditions.
The police then negotiated with the Changchun City Fourth Detention Center and got the latter to add her name to their inmates’ roster for the time being, and agree to physically admit her at a later time when her health improved. The police then took her to the police-mini-hospital on August 11, 2020. One officer said, “You are sick, but no worries. We’ll treat you with scientific methods.” The police pressured the hospital doctors to give Ms. Liu injections and pills ever day in order to get her to meet the requirements for detention.
After 40 days of involuntary treatment that cost the police 20,000 yuan, Ms. Liu still did not improve. The police brought her back to the Nanguangchang Police Station and held her there for four more days. They released her on bail on September 19, 2020.
Ms. Liu was never told what medications she was given and she was still suffering complications from the involuntary treatment when she was arrested again at the end of May 2022.
Even Earlier Persecution
Ms. Liu took up Falun Gong in 1994 and soon recovered from her numerous diseases, including a heart disease, rheumatism, bronchitis, and neurosis. She also learned to be a better and kinder person by following Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance.
Ms. Liu held firm to her faith after the persecution began in 1999, and was repeatedly arrested. Her earlier persecution, prior to the two arrests mentioned above, is described below.
She was arrested on February 15, 2007 after being reported for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. She was held for a total of 55 days at various facilities, including the Weizigou Lockup, Heizuizi Women’s Labor Camp, and Tiebei Police Hospital.
Ms. Liu’s next arrest was in June 2009 after she was again reported for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. She was taken to the Hongqi Street Police Station before being transferred to Weizigou Detention Center. The police later attempted to have her admitted to Heizuizi Women’s Labor Camp, but failed because of her health conditions. She was released, only to be arrested again the next day by agents from the Liuying Road Police Station. She was released hours later.
Ms. Liu was arrested outside her home on June 3, 2013 and held at the Changchun City Third Detention Center for 33 days.
The Shuguang Road Police Station arrested Ms. Liu and raided her home on July 18, 2014 and held her at the Weizigou Lockup for 15 days.
Ms. Liu was talking to people about Falun Gong near a supermarket on August 21, 2016 when she was seized, possibly by agents from the Changtong Road Police Station. She was released the next day.
