(Minghui.org) My heart sank when I read the article, “Practitioners in China, Please Do Not Participate in Overseas Phone Calling Projects”. In the harsh environment in China, large-scale coordination is dangerous, and is not what Master Li wants. The risks are no different from gambling and losses are inevitable.
Some practitioners said the Minghui Editorial Board hasn’t made a formal announcement and Master has not said anything about this. If the Minghui Editorial Board or Master mentioned this issue, there would be no opportunities for us to cultivate ourselves, and enlighten.
I know many practitioners inside China have participated in this overseas phone call project. I hope we can stop and minimize any losses and security issues.
I’d like to share some examples related to cell phone security.
Example 1
After China Unicom rolled out CDMA cellphones in 2002, my coworker Lei bought one, but it was stolen. Using the GPS function of the phone Lei found its location and reported it to the police. The thief was arrested.
This was big news at my workplace and many coworkers talked about the capabilities of technology. From this incident I learned the potential risks of cell phone security. So whenever I visited other practitioners, I always left my cell phone at home. My parents were upset because they could not reach me. They eventually got used to it since they could always ask my wife to pass on any urgent messages.
Example 2
I visited Zhu, a practitioner in a neighboring county in 2016. While we were discussing projects related to Falun Dafa, he took a cell phone from his pocket and said, “This is very handy. I have righteous thoughts, so I have no fear.” I was surprised and I reminded him about cell phone security. He did not listen. I felt I had no choice and I stopped contacting him.
Not long afterward, I read on Minghui that Zhu was arrested. My instinct told me this could be related to his lack of concern about security. A friend had dinner with a city state security bureau chief who said, “Zhu went everywhere contacting others through his cell phone. It won’t do if we did not arrest him.”
Zhu was sentenced to three years in prison. Another practitioner Yang who often contacted him by cell phone was also arrested and sentenced to a 7-year-term. The material production site affiliated with Yang was raided and destroyed.
Example 3
I met with Chen, a practitioner in a neighboring county, in 2017. His relative saw a document in the city government which listed many practitioners who were related to major cases, including Chen. This happened because a city officer received a phone call from overseas. The official asked authorities to track the number down and check who had access to the information and sent it to practitioners outside China.
When Chen told me what happened, he confirmed that he was involved in this. I realized we should not underestimate the CCP’s (Chinese Communist Party) technical skills.
