(Minghui.org) A Suizhou City, Hubei Province, resident was taken to Fanjiatai Prison on April 19, 2024, to serve time for his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Mr. Zhou Hongliang was arrested around 4 p.m. on March 10, 2023, by four plainclothes officers and a uniformed officer at the shopping mall where he worked. The police took Mr. Zhou to his home and spent one hour searching it.
Mr. Zhou refused to go with the police after the raid, as he had to take care of his incapacitated mother in her 80s. It’s not clear if his mother lived with him. In retaliation, the police beat and kicked him and whipped him with a leather belt. Officer Xiong Zhiliang from the Xicheng Police Station later came and took him away.
Some residents in the community saw the police savagely beat Mr. Zhou and said, “He is a good person—you shouldn’t beat him like that.”
Mr. Zhou was held in the Suizhou City First Detention Center and tried on September 4, 2023. It was recently confirmed by Minghui.org that he was transferred to Fanjiatai Prison in Shayang County, Jingmen City, to serve time. But the length of his term and other details about his indictment and trial aren’t clear.
