(Minghui.org) In early August 2024, we learned that a resident of Chenzhou City, Hunan Province, was arrested again for his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
The exact time of Mr. Liao Songlin’s arrest is unclear. He is currently held at the Chenzhou City Detention Center. Other details of his case remain to be investigated.
Mr. Liao, around 53, used to work for the Chenzhou Train Inspection Office of Hengyang Depot. He took up Falun Gong at the end of 1996 and became a more conscientious worker and a better person. He was well regarded by his colleagues, family and friends.
After the persecution began in 1999, Mr. Liao was repeatedly targeted for his faith. Prior to his latest arrest, he was arrested at least seven other times, resulting in a two-year term of forced labor and three prison terms totaling eleven and a half years.
Mr. Liao’s father, Mr. Liao Songlin, was also brutally persecuted for practicing Falun Gong. The older man was jailed three times for a total of ten years. He struggled with poor health after completing his third prison term on July 13, 2021. He died on October 14, 2022, at the age of 81. Even after his passing, local community workers came to harass him and attempted to verify his death by checking out his burial place.
